I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again no doubt; Cranks and I go back a long way. For those not in the know, Cranks is a fabulous vegetarian cafe at Dartington, Devon; it also has a bakery arm in Wiltshire that makes delicious and wholesome slow rise breads, sandwiches and wraps. To find out more, read my cheese and leek bread pudding post from earlier this year.

Argi Bhaji SandwichSince its pioneering start on Carnaby Street back in 1961, Cranks has weathered a whole series of faddy food trends by staying true to its roots and offering vegetarian whole foods that are not only good for you, but taste delicious too. Its new range of vibrant vegetarian sandwiches, wraps and salads certainly sound good to me. How about a filling of onion bhaji, cucumber, red onion, mango chutney, coriander with mint and yoghurt dressing all wrapped up in malted wholegrain bread? And guess what the name of this Indian inspired creation is? Argi Bhaji. It seems their sandwiches are served with a liberal dose of fun and pun.  Here are the names of some other sandwiches:  Hey Pesto, Rockafeta, Eggstacy, It’s the Slaw and Cheddar Gorge. Wraps go by the name of: Sunny n Spice and Middle East Feast. Even the salad box gets a name: Falafel and Friends. If that wasn’t enough, you can even colour in your sandwich wrapper whilst savouring the delights within.

With their slogan, Crank Up Your Lunch, Cranks are hoping to make your lunchtimes a tastier, healthier and more enjoyable experience.     My favourite vegetarian lunch is a bowl of spicy hot, steamy ramen noodles with a selection of leftover bits of vegetables such as beansprouts, broccoli, romanescu, green beans, Savoy cabbage and always a few frozen peas. I usually eat it cosied up in my big armchair whilst browsing everyone’s blogs. ~looks down~ Oh! Just like today! 😀

    I love to eat falafel pittas at home. They are little spicy chickpea cakes that I make and eat in a pitta pocket. I also like to add a nice colourful crunchy salad to go with it. They are incredibly delicious!

    If I am feeling piggy I love Hommity pie but I try to have a wholesome salad with grains. cheese, and salad ingredients or a sandwich during the week eaten at the uni lab and perhaps a homemade soup and crusty granary bread at the weekends

    One of my favourites is Cous Cous (Tesco 50p) with Taco beans (Tesco 65p). You can do it anywhere with a kettle and a microwave so it’s feasible to do at work. It’s so filling, and will stretch to 2 portions.

    I love a chilli & mixed bean couscous hot I like it at come while reading a book and cold I pop it in a tub and eat it anywhere I do like to eat it when the kids are at the park for a bit of extra energy

    My husband,son and myself are vegetarians and I make batches of home-made soups which I freeze down and eat for lunch at home each day, chilli tomato being my favourite one.

    As a special treat we will often go to one of the many vegetarian curry houses that are everywhere in East Ham – it is always good and we have our favourite places – I love a good Dal Makhani!

    My favourite vegetarian lunch is a whopping great salad with every vegetable that I can find in the house thrown in then drizzled with a yummy oil dressing. I eat it at home and it is what I choose if I’m eating out at a restaurant that doesn’t offer a decent veggie menu.
