Marzipan And Chocolate Recipes: Update May 2024

I originally published this post as a collection of marzipan and chocolate recipes for We Should Cocoa. Now I’ve updated it to make it more useful. I’ve removed dead recipes, improved images, added titles, more information and some new recipes.

When I originally set the challenge of creating a recipe with marzipan and chocolate, I was in for a surprise. Turned out that people either love marzipan or hate it. There doesn’t seem to be a middle ground. Many of the participants hated it.

I was beginning to think that my co-organiser Chele and I are playing good cop, bad cop. And Chele was definitely the good cop. Luckily, some love marzipan as much as I do – what a relief. And although the entries to that month’s #WeShouldCocoa challenge were slow in coming forward, there was a sudden rush at the end.

So I was pleased to report there was more than just my entry. There were 17 marzipan and chocolate recipes in total. Again, there was a diverse range of offerings and a lot of creative talent. It’s wasn’t all simnel cake by any means, in fact there wasn’t a single one. As is usually the case, I was left in a quandary, wondering which one to make first.

17 Marzipan and Chocolate Recipes

If you like marzipan, you probably like chocolate as well. The two go together like hand and glove. But there’s more to this pairing than marzipan covered in chocolate, although that’s certainly a delicious way to enjoy it.

In this collection of marzipan and chocolate recipes, you’ll find cookies, cakes, pastries and even ice-cream. Some are vegan and many even include homemade marzipan.

Triple Chocolate Macarons

Five triple chocolate macarons in a diagonal line.

Victoria of The District Chocoholic got things off to an amazing start with her triple chocolate macarons. Not only are these perfectly formed, a skill I have yet to acquire, but they sound just the sort of thing I would love to tuck into.

Easter Brownies

A glass plate full of Easter simnel brownies.

Brownie batter spiked with Easter spices and a layer of marzipan in the middle to resemble a simnel cake. These Easter brownies are a must for any early spring gathering.

Marzipan Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream

This marzipan, chocolate and cherry ice-cream, made by Hannah of Corner Cottage Bakery would have been perfect for the lovely Easter weather many of us enjoyed.

Chocolate Matcha Battenberg

Really, I wasn’t copying Aveen. I’d had the idea of doing a Battenberg for quite some time. I wanted to use matcha and chocolate to make a good contrast of colours and flavours. So this is what I tried to do with this chocolate and matcha Battenberg. Turns out, it’s a winning combination. You can find the recipe right here on Tin and Thyme.

Chocolate Battenburg

A fellow marzipan enthusiast, Aveen of Baking Obsessively, made a lovely Chocolate Battenburg. She even made the flowers that decorated the top.

Cherry Chocolate Battenberg Cake

Whilst I’m talking pretty, I think this might be the prettiest battenberg I’ve ever seen. It’s a gluten free cherry-chocolate battenberg cake with cherry marzipan from The Gluten Free Alchemist.

Easter Marzipan Biscuits

With Easter just around the corner, Suelle of Mainly Baking made some gorgeous Easter marzipan biscuits shaped to form nests complete with eggs. Welcome back Suelle, we missed you last month.

Pistachio Marzipan Chocolate Cake

In a daring bid for something different, Kath of The Ordinary Cook, not only made her own marzipan but made it with pistachios rather than almonds to give a gorgeous green stripe through her pistachio marzipan and chocolate cake.

Marzipan Chocolate Strawberry Torte

Carly of Tart to Heart created a real Easter extravaganza with her marzipan chocolate-strawberry torte – luscious layers of shortbread, chocolate sponge, strawberry mousse, vanilla buttercream and marzipan.

Spanish Vanilla Cake

With great heroism, Miss Cake Baker of What I Baked This Weekend decided she would take this opportunity to see if she could overcome her aversion to Marzipan. Sadly it didn’t work. But she came up with a great looking cake which I’m very sure I would have liked – Spanish Vanilla Cake.

Chocolate Easter Cupcakes

Amaretto chocolate Easter cupcakes with chocolate buttercream and crystallised spring flowers.

Similar to the Easter brownies, these chocolate Easter cupcakes have a layer of marzipan in the middle. They’re also flavoured with Easter spices. The crystallised flowers on top are optional, but highly recommended.

Apricot Mocha Brownie Marzipan Bars

As a fan of both brownies and marzipan I would find these apricot-mocha brownie marzipan bars very hard to resist. Maya of Foddiva’s Kitchen has done a wonderful job of putting these together with a lovely contrast of colours as well as flavours.

Stollen Cakes

Instead of making stollen this Christmas, why not try these stollen cakes. They’re much easier to make and quite delicious. As well as the usual dried fruit, spices and marzipan, they also include little chips of chocolate.

Marzipan Choc Chip Cookies

Another variation on marzipan, Johanna of Green Gourmet Giraffe made a vegan version using no eggs. Her marzipan choc chip cookies sound very moreish.

Easter Chocolate Marzipan Biscuits

Biscuits for Easter were popular and Mel of Sharky Oven Gloves chose to make some too. She took some needed time out from her dissertation to make these Easter chocolate and marzipan biscuits. She even made her own marzipan eggs for good measure.

Easiest Chocolate Cake In The World

A decorated marzipan chocolate cake.

This easiest chocolate cake in the world from Dom of Belleau Kitchen is sure to become a firm favourite in the tea rooms he is now baking for. Dom made his own marzipan for the cake and has decorated it beautifully. It doesn’t look easy to me, but it does look good.

Apple And Almond Pastries

Apple and almond pastries are hard to resist at the best of times. But how about when they’re filled with a secret layer of molten chocolate? That’s exactly what I created one fine day and they are not only easy to make, but irresistible to boot.

  1. I feel quite shamed by my non-entry – especially when there were people making vegan marzipan! Oh well…
