We Should Cocoa – The July 2015 Challenge

Blueberries

Summer has arrived here in the UK for sure. In fact I’m already gasping in the heat and wishing it was cooler. But what, you are wondering, is the chosen ingredient  for this month’s We Should Cocoa?

July is a special for me. Not only is it my birthday month, but it is the best month for berries; strawberries are still in season, raspberries arrive as do blackcurrants and now British grown blueberries. We’ve already had the first three at different times as We Should Cocoa themes, but we’ve never had blueberries. Blueberries it is then. Blueberries buried in chocolate pancake batter spring to mind, but I’m sure there are more summery applications. If you live in parts of the world where fresh blueberries are not available right now, there are always dried ones to play around with or even blueberry jam.

We Should CocoaSo create something which contains both blueberries and some kind of chocolate and return here to add it to the linky below by midnight on 25th July. And don’t forget if you tweet about your recipe, include the #WeShouldCocoa hashtag and me @Choclette8 and I will endeavour to retweet all I see.

Last month we had some chocolate cupcake inspiration hosted over at Kerry Cooks, so do take a look if you haven’t already. If you’d like to host a future We Should Cocoa, there are plenty of slots available. Do get in touch.

If you need any blueberry inspiration, here are a few ideas:

A lovely theme. I’m seeing a chocolate blueberry smoothie somewhere in my future!

Trying to imagine the colour of your smoothie Dom – maybe a dark purple?

I’ve not had a lot of luck with smoothie colours lately. Lots of brown/sludge green (oh so appetising…) but hopefully yours will get a more colourful hue!

Haha, yes mine aren’t always pretty. But it’s hard to go wrong with bright berries – unless you add spinach too!

yes, dark purple, or maybe if I do it with chocolate ice-cream it will be lavender in colour!

A delicate lavender ice-cream Dom? How refined 😉 Now you’ve got me wondering about blueberry and lavender as a combo.

Agree, blueberries are great Craig – they last better than most berries too.

Thanks Angie. I’m rather looking forward to it too. Mostly I use white chocolate with them, so I ought to try something different.

I really want to take part, but my homegron blueberries won’t be ready for another few weeks. And I don’t really want to be buying them for the challenge, esp. as soft fruit like raspberries and strawberries are still coming strong from my garden : ( Sad face. Hopefully next month I will join in with the theme, but looking forward to the submissions.

That’s a shame Shaheen, but I quite understand you not wanting to buy them when you will soon be having homegrown ones – how lovely. There is, of course, dried blueberries or blueberry jam.
