We Should Cocoa – the July 2013 Challenge

Redcurrant Ice-Cream
Redcurrant Ripple Ice-cream
Made last July and still unblogged

It’s July, it’s my birth month and it’s summer – yes really. What could be more appropriate to cool, soothe and enjoy in the hot and sunny days to come than the icy velvet of ice-cream. Yes, ice-cream. You can make whatever type of ice-cream you like as long as it either contains chocolate or is incorporated into something chocolatey such as an ice-cream chocolate biscuit sandwich. You don’t need an ice-cream maker to make ice-cream; I’ve never owned one, but have made lots of this chilled ambrosia over the last year or so. My biggest difficulty is making it look attractive for photography purposes. I don’t know why, but I seem incapable of making a clean scoop of ice-cream. I have two ice-cream scoops, but have not yet produced one single ball of perfection; hacking it out with an ice-pick is more the effect I get.

You are all such a creative lot and always have me in awe with your amazing entries, but just in case you are stuck for ideas, you might want to take a look at Kavey’s Bloggers Scream for Ice Cream pinterest board. If you want to throw in some herbs as well and enter BSFIC too, the current theme is herbs.

If you haven’t seen the two excellent We Should Cocoa round-ups from May and June, do take a look at the mango round-up from Shaheen of Allotment 2 Kitchen and the mint round-up from Victoria of A Kick at the Pantry Door.

For a reminder of the rules, check out the We Should Cocoa page. Entry is via InLinkz below:

oh it is too cold for ice cream – though I keep meaning to make a condensed milk one so maybe I will do it, given that I live with two odd bods who eat ice cream all year round!!!!

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but ice cream is my absolute favourite treat, but I’ve never tried making it – I’ve always been put off by not having an ice cream maker but your chilli chocolate one looked like it worked great whisked by hand so I think it’s time I tried… I’ve missed the last two WSC’s so I will try super hard to get an entry in for this one!

I’m liking the sound of this challenge! To get a clean scoop of ice cream let your ice cream soften for a bit and dip your scoop in boiling water (and dry it off) first. That always helps. 🙂
