Autumn bestows such generosity of produce. These autumn chocolate recipes pair up with some of that bounty. Late summer vegetables such as courgettes are still going strong whilst their cousin pumpkins are starting to come into their own. There are blackberries, plums, pears and hazelnuts. And then there’s hot chocolate. Just what you need after kicking up the fallen leaves on an autumnal walk.
This post is in the process of being updated September 2023.
Well September has vanished in a blur of moving house and location as well as starting a new job. I’ve sadly neglected Tin and Thyme. However today is the first of a new month and time to get serious again. It’s also the date for the We Should Cocoa round-up. Here are some gorgeous autumn chocolate recipes to inspire and delight.
Autumn Chocolate Recipes
Chocolate Courgette Recipes
Cacao Courgette Breakfast Bars
These gluten free cacao-courgette breakfast cake bars from Gluten Free Alchemist have some of my favourite ingredients – chocolate, roasted hazelnuts and peanut butter. What a splendid way to start the day.
Chocolate Courgette Cake
Sneak some veg into chocolate cake lovers with a slice of this chocolate courgette cake. This not too sweet, but nonetheless delicious bake is from me at Tin and Thyme.
Chocolate Courgette Cupcakes (vegan)
If you haven’t tried sticky chewy chocolate cake before, you’re in for a treat with these chocolate courgette cupcakes. They’re vegan and topped with a vegan water ganache. You’d be hard pressed to know they contain courgette, so great for another bit of sneaky veg. From me at Tin and Thyme.
Chocolate Plum Recipes
Plum And Rose Chocolate Cheesecake Bake
Cheekily, I’m sneaking an extra one in here. I made this Plum and Rose Chocolate Cheesecake Bake, just in case I hadn’t time to follow through with my original plan.
Chocolate Plum Cake
A seasonal chocolate plum cake from Shaheen at A2K – A Seasonal Veg Table.
Chocolate Blackberry Recipes
Double Chocolate Blackberry Muffins
And a final seasonal bake from Chris at Thinly Spread – double chocolate blackberry muffins.
Chocolate & Blackberry Pizza
Who doesn’t love pizza? Johanna at Green Gourmet Giraffe came up with this fab chocolate and blackberry pizza made with cream cheese and maple syrup. it sounds quite exotic, but how I want a slice.
Blackberry Chocolate Cake
I used my homemade chocolate blackberry jam to sandwich this blackberry chocolate cake. I had a go at feathering for the very first time with some blackberry ganache drizzled over dark chocolate.
Chocolate Fig Recipes
Fig And Honey Mince Pies
Fig and honey is a classic pairing and for good reason. It’s been used in most of these fig recipes. Dom from Belleau Kitchen has brought it to the fore with his fig and honey mince pies with chocolate shortcrust pastry. Send some over I say.
White Chocolate Panna Cotta With Honey-Roasted Figs
And more fresh figs in this Christmas dessert from Kate at Gluten Free Alchemist. She also pairs figs with white chocolate in this white chocolate panna cotta served with honey-roasted figs & walnuts. As Kate says, this slips down rather easily, even after a heavy Christmas meal. It sounds as though Kate and Janice are onto something with this pairing and I’m wondering why I haven’t tried it before.
Fig Tarts With White Chocolate & Mascarpone
Eventually I got in on this fig and white chocolate pairing act. These fig tarts with white chocolate and mascarpone from me at Tin and Thyme are a revelation. The pastry is deliciously crumbly and the figs are honey roasted, of course.
Chocolate Apple Recipes
Apples, it seems, are not an obvious choice to go with chocolate. Once upon a time, it was the chosen ingredient for We Should Cocoa. Much scratching of heads ensued. This resulted in some really creative and inspiring cooking. Not all were convinced by the combination, but there were some converts. I defy anyone not to like Montezuma’s apple crumble bar.
Chocolate Apple Charlotte
Not one to blow his own trumpet, Dom of Belleau Kitchen reckons he has possibly created “the most heavenly dessert ever”. Can you guess what it is? I just love the marbling effect on this chocolate apple charlotte.
Chocolate Tuiles And Apple Snow
As always from Phil of As Strong As Soup, we have something rather different. Very elegant to look at with an evocative title, I am awestruck by this millefeuille of chocolate tuiles and apple snow.
Apple Tart With White Chocolate Brandy Custard
White chocolate custard got a second look in, but with brandy this time. It accompanied this scrumptious looking rustic apple tart with a white chocolate and brandy custard, baked by Laura of How to Cook Good Food.
Apple Cheesecake Brownies
Apple ricotta cheesecake is sandwiched between layers of squidgy chocolate brownie. Tuck in and delight in these apple cheesecake brownies. All that’s needed is a fork.
Chocolate Pear Recipes
Chocolate Walnut & Pear Torte
Free-from is proving to be a bit of a theme this month. Kate from The Gluten Free Alchemist gives us not only a glorious gluten-free cake-cum-dessert, but it’s dairy free too – chocolate, walnut and pear torte.
Double Chocolate Cake With Spiced Pears
It’s not just me that’s braved a bit of baking. This double chocolate cake with spiced pears from The Foodie Journey looks delicious and is perfect comfort food. Turns out Sylvie is in Australia, so it’s actually winter there. I reckon I could probably force a slice down despite the heat.
Pear Chocolate Spice Cake
We have another gorgeous seasonal pear chocolate & spice cake from Angela at Only Crumbs Remain which was nearly vegan, but not quite.
Chocolate And Pear Cake
September is such a wonderful month for nature’s bounty and fruit in particular. Alida over at My Little Italian Kitchen has used pears for her entry in this chocolate and pear cake. She has been rather clever with her use of jam which isn’t at first very obvious.
Mocha Pear Upside Down Cake (gluten-free)
If you’ve never paired coffee and pears, you may want to try this mocha pear upside down cake from the Gluten Free Alchemist. It may seem unusual, but it sounds delicious. It’s gluten-free too of course.
Chocolate Pumpkin Recipes
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Scones
I’m not sure why, but for some reason scones speak autumn to me. Right on cue comes Lucy of Baking Queen fame with these autumnal pumpkin chocolate chip scones.
Chocolate Hazelnut Recipes
Chocolate and hazelnut is a match made in heaven as any nutella fan will tell you. For many many recipes that combine chocolate and hazelnuts, head over to this post on chocolate and hazelnut recipes.
Hot Chocolate Recipes
Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate
Now the chill is with us, I can’t think of anything better than a mug of this extra thick and creamy slow cooker hot chocolate from Lucy via BakingQueen74.
Lucy says
Delicious roundup, I really want to make millionaires shortbread now I’ve seen those two. So gorgeous!
Debbie says
oooh these all look incredible – some real chocolate dedication going on! And that Nutella cake from The Baking Explorer – just incredible!!
Choclette says
I’m always amazed at just how inventive everyone is.

Jo / Jo's Kitchen Larder says
Oh wow, you were super busy in September! Hope the move has gone smoothly and best of luck with your new job too! Delicious chocolatey round up again> I got my eye on that lovely Mocha Pear Upside Down Cake 🙂
Choclette says
Thanks Jo. It’s only half a move really as CT and most of my stuff is still down in Cornwall. I’m hoping it won’t be too long until we’re all reunited though.
Jennifer @ The Champagne Supernova says
All of these desserts look so delicious and my daughters are HUGE fans of chocolate… so I can use these goodies to bribe them for good grades.
Choclette says
Hahaha, if only it was that easy Jennifer 😉
Corina says
Such a lovely round up and those pumpkin and chocolate chip scones are especially calling me now! Perfect for this time of year.
Choclette says
Those scones look amazing Corina, they are calling to me too. I was rather impressed with your jellies and now itching to give them a go.
Kate - Gluten Free Alchemist says
You’ve moved?! How exciting! I saw in a comment you made that you weren’t in Cornwall, but thought you must be on holiday…..
Lovely round up as always Choclette. I could quite happily eat all of them x
Choclette says
Thanks Kate. It’s all very exciting. I didn’t think I’d ever leave Cornwall again as it took me so many years to get back there last time, but you just never know what’s around the corner. I wrote a post “Leaving Liskeard” if you’re interested – /2017/08/leaving-liskeard/
johanna @ green gourmet giraffe says
I will have one of each please – all look wonderfully decadent! Glad you are still keeping in with WSC despite your busy times as I love seeing all the great chocolate creations – not sure where to start here – scones, cakes, and slices all do it for me!
Choclette says
Yes, I’m up for trying everything – but then I usually am 😉 WSC is about the only surety in my blogging life at the moment. Thanks for hanging on in there with it. It turned 7 years old last month, but I forgot in all the excitement, so didn’t mention it.
Angie@Angie's Recipes says
I am in chocolate heaven! That chocolate box is fun.
Choclette says
That chocolate box is awfully clever. I don’t think I could ever pull anything like that off.
