Pizza for pudding? Yes really. This recipe for plum and walnut pizza produces a delicious combination of tart juicy plums, fragrant vanilla and crunchy walnuts. Then there’s the pizza dough with it’s caramel notes from the baked white chocolate. It’s irresistible.
Ages ago, I saw a fabulous post for a fruit dessert pizza over at Peaches Please and was immediately struck by the idea. Pizza for dessert? Who knew?
Plum And Walnut Pizza
It just so happened that I’d been sent some plums from South Africa. So the time was right to try a plum pizza.
Some of you may recall the plum and amaretto ice-cream I made with these very same plums way back when, so I had high hopes. I was also keen to try making pizza dough with white chocolate which I thought would suit this fruity delight very well.
The key to my sweet pizza dough is the addition of that white chocolate. It’s the only sweetener I use, but it add wonderful bursts of sweetness as the white chocolate caramelises. If you use a vanillary white chocolate, so much the better.
I often add maca powder to things like pizza dough. It adds a very subtle note of caramel, but principally it makes me think I’m being healthy. The addition is entirely optional and won’t make any difference to the consistency of your pizza dough.
Gosh these plum and walnut pizzas are good. The dough is soft and sweet and combines beautifully with the tart juicy plums and the fragrant vanilla. The walnuts give a delightful crunch and added bitter notes which contrast nicely with the caramel undertones from the bits of white chocolate that caramelise in the dough.
I particularly like the look of these pizzas with the strikingly coloured purple plums. They’re a visual feast.
These sweet dessert pizzas have become a regular on our table now. I’ve used several different varieties of plum, but never any as striking as these. I’ve also baked some with peaches and with nectarines. Both are exceedingly good.
What Sort Of Jam To Use
Plum jam is the ideal jam to use for these plum pizzas. But if you don’t have any, swap it for apricot jam or strawberry jam.
Are Walnuts Good On Pizza?
You bet they are. Walnuts add a welcome crunch and they’re delicious toasted. They go particularly well with blue cheese, goat’s cheese and other creamy cheeses. But what’s less well known is that they pair brilliantly with fruit on pizzas.
You can make both sweet and savoury fruit pizzas. Cheese, fruit and walnuts make some of the best pizza toppings. This plum pizza, however, contains no cheese, just plums and walnuts. It is, nevertheless, delicious.

Johanna GGG says
want want want – and love how you use white chocolate in baking – would be so good with plums and walnuts – I make dessert pizzas all too infrequently but this white chocolate pizza dough is really intriguing me even if plums are out of season – I could imagine the dough would go well with berries too.
Choclette says
Haha, seems I am very late to this dessert pizza malarky, but I’m glad I have finally got there Johanna. It would be interesting to see how you got on with berries – I’m not sure how well they would cope with the high heat.
