This triple orange chocolate cake recipe is one for the chocolate orange fans out there. It’s rich and zesty with a divine orange chocolate cream cheese filling and it’s topped with a sumptuous orange chocolate glaze. Perfect for birthdays and other celebrations.
When I received a pair of glamorous little white chocolate shoes, I knew immediately they would have to adorn a cake. And adorn the gorgeous citrussy cake that I made for last week’s tea party they did.
Triple Orange Chocolate Cake
Given the theme of this month’s We Should Cocoa, that cake had to be an orange one. But as it was for an afternoon tea party, it couldn’t just be any old orange cake. No I needed something even more tempting. And thus it became a triple orange chocolate cake.
I had a jar of bitter orange syrup left over from making candied orange peel, a bar of orange milk chocolate from Divine and some organic oranges, so with those all gathered up, I set to.
I made two moist chocolate cakes infused with orange zest. A melted bar of orange flavoured milk chocolate turned a tub of cream cheese into an absolute dream. I sandwiched the two cakes with it, then poured a shiny chocolate orange glaze over the top.
Three types of orange and three types of chocolate had the desired effect and this cake was truly delicious. The photographs are not of the best due to the poor light, but the cake had a real wow factor with those shoes strutting their stuff.
Although this cake was undoubtedly gorgeous and has to be my entry for We Should Cocoa, the orange and chocolate mince pies I made for the same party were absolutely delicious too and would otherwise have been a strong contender.

Triple Orange Chocolate Cake
Ingredients
Cake
- 225 g unsalted butter softened

- 10 g unsalted butter
Instructions
Cake
- Set the oven to 180℃ (160℃ fan, 350℉, Gas 4).
- Cream the butter with the sugars until pale and fluffy. I do this by hand, but use an electric mixer if you prefer.225 g unsalted butter, 125 g golden caster sugar, 100 g dark muscovado sugar
- Grate in the orange zest and cream some more.1 organic orange

- Leave in the tins for 10 minutes then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Filling
- Melt the chocolate in a bowl suspended over a pan of hot, but not boiling water.100 g orange milk chocolate

- Spread over one of the cooled cakes and place the other on top.
Glaze
- Warm the syrup in a small pan, but don’t bring it to the boil.50 ml orange syrup
- Add the chocolate and butter, leave to melt for a few minutes, then stir until smooth.80 g dark chocolate, 10 g unsalted butter
